Manager's Update:
In an age when most of the "discussion" is one-way commentary and opinions produced for a national audience by national commercial television and radio, public access television provides us with the opportunity to publicly and freely express ourselves to the people with whom we truly share our public lives and for them to express themselves to us. Diverse points of view and real discussion about matters we care about contribute to a strong, vibrant and interesting community.
Because we are available to everyone in our viewing community (whether they subscribe to cable or not), LCTV does not operate like a newspaper or commercial or public broadcast station which picks and chooses what to write or produce. We do not have camera people available to cover events or editors to edit video tape or crew to produce studio shows.
What we do have are a few volunteers that will teach you, free of charge, how to use camcorders and mics, edit tape and produce studio shows. Once you are certified, we provide, free of charge, continued use of the equipment and facilities to produce television. We encourage individuals and organizations to take advantage of our classes to learn these skills for themselves and to help others produce shows. Public access is proactive; one local producer writes at the end of his shows, "Don't blame the media - be the media!"
Our first group class of the year - Studio Crew - begins on Saturday, April 25 at 10am. Please visit our "Training and Classes" page for more information on this class and other classes beginning in May.
Last month, under "Manager's Update", I listed a good number of the shows we are currently airing. Highlighted shows and how to access specific show information is now available under "TV Schedule".
Mike 'Dookie' Ducharme, website builder extraordinaire, continues to maintain our website and give us invaluable ideas for improving it. LCTV is proud to list Dookie as a sponsor of LCTV. Please visit "Links" and scroll down to find the link to Mike's website.
Tours of the LCTV station and studio can be arranged by calling 563-6338, emailing lctv1@lvtc.org or by chance - if you happen to be in the neighborhood and see a car in the driveway, stop in and take a look!
